Truth’s UI Design + mini updates

Hi guys! I am back again for some updates on my current project TRUTH. I’ve finally finalized the game’s logo design and general UI look and feel. After a lot of prototyping and brainstorming, I’ve finally settled for a neoclassic + light grunge mood, evoking stone and rough textures against a dark background.
I know it took me such a long time to finish only the UI, (I was also still writing the chapters for the game), but being a Graphic Designer myself, I tend to put a lot of care into GUIs (being an anxious perfectionist also helps ehehe). Interface Design is one of the most important aspects in a game’s overall impression, imo. It is so subtle, almost invisible, that most people tend to overlook it, unfortunately.
The logo type is a combination of the concepts “Dagger” + “Musical Notes” + “Occult Runes”
In my in-depth $5 article on Patreon, I will discuss my step by step thought process for brainstorming the aesthetic design of a game, from conceptualizing to prototyping. I’m hoping it might be interesting for you guys to learn more about it!
Some more things I have finished this month are the following:
– Character Sheets submitted
– Demo chapters 80% finished
– Finalized Gameplay Mechanics
– Brainstorm unique symbols/runes to be used in the game
Anyway, this is just a quick update. I might have more art to show after a few weeks, since I’ve finally submitted the character sheets and our artist is already working on the characters (they look amazing! I’m so excited to show you guys the character designs!) I’ll also update the UI screens as I finish them, so expect more of that soon!
That’s all for now!

TRUTH Demo Release Announcement!

Hey there! I’ve got some good news!

The first complete draft of Truth is complete! Phew! This means that most of the scenes are already in place and the general shape of the story is finished. Completing this step makes the possibility of a 2018 release plausible. I’m really excited to share it with everyone!

Truth certainly grew from the idea I originally had, just a short VN with a couple of kids battling a demon. The story became a lot more sophisticated, with stronger visuals even I didn’t expect in the beginning stages of writing.

Now that the first draft is done, the next milestones are the following:

End of April : Second Draft Done + UI & Art Concept Planning Complete

• July 2018 : Demo release •

I say July because I want to give myself a wide berth for the demo, just so we could compensate for any unforeseen events (you know how life is hehe), but if everything goes well, we might be able to finish the demo as early as June 2018.  All my patrons will get exclusive first access before we release the demo in public, and they will have access to more insider goodies like art, full game sneak peaks, character profiles etc. If you haven’t checked my Patreon out, why don’t you have a peek? My recent post includes a new excerpt from the game!

Exciting times guys! I hope you continue supporting us during our the most grueling stages of gamedev!become_a_patron_button

New characters! – TBB Update

Hi guys! Just a little heads up before January ends!

So hey! I designed some more extra characters for The Black Beast. They’re adorable and I had great fun making them. What do you think? Can you guess what they need help with?

Other than that, Marionette and I have narrowed down on the updated features we’d like to implement on the game, and revising the story to fit the changes. Things are moving forward, although progress is slow! Personal issues and money problems as usual. Can’t run away from them ehh.. Such is the fate of indie devs!

Have a fun weekend everyone! Thanks for reading this mini update : )

“The Black Beast” wins Maximum Monster Month Jam!

Holy moley… We won! What an amazing honor!

But this is just the beginning! There’s still a lot of work to do to complete this project. Early tester feedback is pointing us to the right direction:

• A more solid game mechanic
• Better conflict
• Utilizing the “Time” element better
• Performance improvements
• Better dialogue formatting for characters

If you’re interested in playtesting it, check out the demo and send us an email! Thanks to everyone who played and supported us through the jam! Everyone who participated had really great projects to show off. I’m really proud of what everyone accomplished!
